Baja Dart

I've always wanted a Baja Bug. I had a sick RC one when I was younger and have wanted one ever since.

Sad part: I'm in high school and have very little funds and I already have 2 cars (2000 Saab 9-5 Wagon and a 1965 Dodge Dart, not bad, but no Baja bug)

I'm trying to think if I should sell the Dart and acquire a Baja bug or make the Dart into an off roading machine (homemade fiberglass fenders, slight lift, lager tires).

The Dart was bought new in 1965 by my Great Grandmother so I don't really want to get rid of it or mess it up making a Baja Dart although I feel it would be fun. I would sell the Saab but I love it and Bugs really aren't that great for commuting.

It'd be a shame to part with the Dart or turn it into a Baja machine.

It really depends on whether you want a Dodge to take all of your money, or a Volkswagen.

Just keep the dream of a Baja Bug alive. I'm sure one day you'll be able to have both.

I have no idea how people can sell cars. I don't know if I'll ever be able to part with my first two.

I still miss my Bronco. It was my first car and I sold it because I couldn't afford the gas anymore. The tranny went right after I sold it, but I still wish I could have kept it as a project. I have my Dart now so it all worked out in the end, but that will always be the one that got away.

Actually, at one point there was a slant 6 1962ish Nova sedan for sale in town that I wanted to sell the Bronco for.

Not to be a jerk and point this out, but the Slant 6 was Chrysler and the Nova was from GM, so the likely hood of their being a Slant 6 Nova in existence ever is pretty slim.

Sorry. I just couldn't let that go. Chevy had just a regular L6, no Slant.

Hmm I'd always thought slant 6 was slang for old American inline sixes. I'm glad to finally be corrected though!

I'm impressed that you own two cars in high school haha. Anyways, do you have a job? If so, save every penny possible! I work a part time job while I'm taking classes right now and I make sure only to spend money on gas to get myself around. That's it. It sucks not being able to go out with friends all the time or frivously spend money on random things, but I saved up like crazy in order to purchase my Baja Bug. Once you've saved enough, bought one and it's sitting in the driveway, you will realize it's all worth it! Here is a picture of my Bug for motivation. Good luck to you, sir!

Hahahaha, I just had the weirdo thought that a Baja Lancer would be hilarious.

Don't chop up the Dart, though. Keep it. And keep saving for that Bug.

I had a jeep wrangler with a slant six in it once. That was pretty fun. Torqey little thing.

I work for the YMCA. After I buy gas I get $8 a month. I also do truck yard work for a local trucking company during the summer. Even if I had money my mom wouldn't let me have 3 cars. That is a beautiful baja.

Thanks! You sound like a hard working guy. Keep doing what you're doing and the hard work will pay off. Someday you'll be able to own a Baja as well!

In high school, I had a 84 lazer turbo and a 67 chevelle 4 speed, malibu, not that flat back crap. I got lucky, the sellers didn't know what they had.

That's awesome. I hope in the future to nab a great classic on the cheap because the owner doesn't really know what it is. It seems kinda unfair, but the owner should be aware of what they've got!

You've got time m'friend. You've got time. In fact, you have your entire 20s (and 30s if you play things right) to screw around with a cheap Baja/muscle/autoX/rock-crawler/off-road/motorcycle/whatever vehicle. Then your 40s/50s hit and you have some more cash and can buy something truly wicked.
